Amber & Oakmoss – A Fragrance with a Little More Depth

Some fragrances are immediately bright, fresh and uplifting. Others are darker, warmer and take a little more time to discover.

Amber & Oakmoss definitely belongs to the second group.

It's warm, earthy and beautifully rich, the sort of fragrance that really comes into its own when you want your home to feel cosy and inviting.

What does oakmoss smell like?

Despite the name, oakmoss isn't actually a type of moss growing on an oak tree,  it's a lichen traditionally associated with woodland and forest environments.

In fragrance, oakmoss has a wonderfully earthy, green character. Think damp woodland, leaves and the forest floor rather than anything obviously floral or sweet.

It's often used to add depth to a fragrance and works particularly well with woods, amber-style notes and other richer ingredients.

And what is amber?

This is one of those slightly confusing fragrance terms because amber isn't necessarily one particular ingredient.

When we describe a fragrance as ambery, we're usually talking about a warm, rich style of scent created by combining different materials. Depending on the fragrance, that can include sweet, resinous, woody, spicy or vanilla-like notes.

The result is usually something warm and enveloping rather than light and fresh.

Why do amber and oakmoss work so well together?

This is where the two really complement each other.

The warmth and richness of the amber-style notes sit beautifully alongside the greener, earthier character of oakmoss.

Neither needs to dominate. Together they create something deeper and more interesting, warm and comforting, but with that slightly earthy edge that stops it becoming overly sweet.

Amber & Oakmoss in your home

We think this type of fragrance works particularly well in living rooms, hallways and bedrooms, anywhere you want something warm and welcoming rather than bright and zesty.

It's also one of those fragrances that can feel completely different depending on the season. The earthy character works beautifully through autumn, while the warmer notes make it equally lovely during the colder winter months.

And if you normally choose citrus or floral home fragrances but fancy trying something a little richer, Amber & Oakmoss is a lovely place to start.

Your home, your fragrance

One of the things we love about home fragrance is just how much difference scent can make to a familiar room.

You don't have to redecorate or change anything else. Sometimes lighting a different candle or changing your reed diffuser is enough to give the room a completely different feel.

And that's exactly where a fragrance such as Amber & Oakmoss comes into its own.
