Can Luxury and Sustainability Go Hand in Hand? We think so. - Heyland & Whittle Ltd

Can Luxury and Sustainability Go Hand in Hand? We think so.

It might sound a touch trite, but here at Heyland and Whittle, we really do love our earth.

So much of what we use is directly sourced from nature, we can’t help but have a deep love and respect for the world and the bounty that it produces.

Whilst we all have to protect and cherish our planet for future generations, we like to think that we can do that with a touch of sustainable luxury.

This Earth Day there are some fantastic initiatives to get involved with, from in-person, socially distanced activities to just turning off your electrics for a couple of hours, or even researching green energy suppliers – there’s so much we can do to make just a few of those incremental changes

There’s a huge amount that we in the industry can also do.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

We’re all committed to reducing, reusing, and recycling – and at Heyland and Whittle we are always thinking of creative solutions for our customers: reducing our impact on the planet without sacrificing the quality we’re committed to.

Our Eco Collection is our celebration of everything that is beautiful, sustainable, and kind to our bodies and the earth.

100% Recycled Paper

Did you know that – worldwide – 4 billion trees are cut down every year for paper? That’s one per cent of the Amazon Rainforest – every single year.

We use a huge amount of paper here in the UK – but it takes just six days to turn old newspapers, books, and magazines into new ones.

It also takes 70% less energy to recycle paper than it does to make it from raw materials – and this process creates 73% less air pollution than making new paper from raw materials.

As paper and card count for 1/5 of all waste produced in the UK, we knew that housing all of our products in recycled – and recyclable! – paper and card was quite simply the only option.

All of our Eco Collection soaps – from vegan Citrus and Turmeric to fragrant English Lavender – are plastic-free, palm free, and come beautifully packaged in 100% recycled card.

100% Recycled Glass

Here’s a fun fact - the average UK household uses 500 glass bottles and jars every year. Glass is 100% recyclable and can be reused over and over again, without losing quality.

Whilst it’s a good start that in the UK, we recycle around 50% of our glass, it’s still a material that doesn’t decompose or biodegrade, which means that leftover 50% puts a huge strain on landfill sites.

And, like paper, it actually takes less energy to recycle glass than it does to make new glass from raw materials. Extra brownie points for recycling glass? For every tonne that is recycled, we can save up to 246 kg of CO2 emissions!

From our diffusers to our candles, we’re proud that the glass that’s integral to these gorgeous products is 100% recycled.

And, once they’re used up, why not turn your Geranium and Oud Reed Diffuser into the prettiest little bud vase, or turn your Hibiscus & White Tea Candle into a stylish pen pot, sweetie jar, or drinking glass? The only limit is your imagination.

If you are looking for beautiful products that respect the planet, look no further. Happy Earth Day – and happy shopping.
